Celebrating Blended Families
Merriam-Webster defines a blended family as~ a family that includes children of a previous marriage of one spouse or both.
When Paul and I got married we became a blended family. In fact, we eloped and the only people who knew were our boys.
I talk a little bit about my kid on here, it’s hard not to because he is pretty amazing, and some of the adventures we had before he left for Army basic training.
It still feels like he is away at camp and I keep buying his favorite snacks like Yoplait ® Go Big ™ yogurt thinking he will be home any day now.
The neighborhood kids don’t mind though! The casa kitchen is always open for them and they love the real fruit and just the right amount of sweetness.
Even Boo was checking out the unique grip & rip pouch!
It is tough for me to imagine my teen defending our country but that is what he is doing. It still makes the tears well up in pride just thinking about it.
But we are lucky, it’s easier for a mother and son to celebrate their relationship. A Letter To My Son expresses how I feel about us.
We have been through so many firsts together. Firsts for both of us. Scary, exhilarating, amazing firsts.
And now we have a new first to tackle.
Now a father and son on the other hand, they can have a tougher time expressing their feelings. I know my husband struggles when it comes to showing his love and pride to his son.
They have this idea that guys need to be tough, and which usually doesn’t include emotional sharing.
So when I saw the Yoplait Go Big Amazing Teens Contest my thoughts immediately leapt to Paul and his boy. We don’t see the mini as often as we’d like, and I know that is a hurdle they have to overcome.
But he is so proud of the young man his son is becoming. Here is part of his letter,
You are a unique mix of little kid and half-grown man. That is something you have done for yourself and you are amazing.
As you get older and more independent, other relationships will take a priority in your life. But I will always miss holding you in my arms when you were small.
