  1. Heat oil a large skillet over medium hight heat. Add sausage, break up with a wooden spoon or spatula, and cook 6-7 minutes until browned. Remove from skillet with a slotted spoon, add to slow cooker.
  2. Add ground beef to skillet, break up and cook 4-5 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon, place in slow cooker.
  3. Place remaining ingredients to slow cooker. Cook on low 4-5 hours or on high 2-3 hours.
  4. Optional method: Add onion, carrot, and garlic to skillet, cook 2-3 minutes stirring occasionally. Mix in chili powder, tomato paste, and brown sugar. Sauté 1-2 minutes. Add mixture to slow cooker. Sir remaining ingredients into slow cooker. Cook on low 3-4 hours or on high 1-2 hours.
  5. Serve hot with desired toppings. Can be served for an extended time from slow cooker set to lowest setting.
