No one is able to predict when an accident will happen. After the initial shock of a traumatic event our focus turns to the Road To Recovery.
Road to Recovery
If you follow me on social media then you have already read that Paul and I were in an accident on the 4th of July. Monday evening we were headed to a family barbecue at his father’s home when a lady failed to yield at a light and drove right in front of us.
My amazing husband did what he could to avoid the impact but it just wasn’t possible. I was leaning forward slightly to put something in the glove box and can remember his voice yelling out but not the words he spoke. I looked up and saw the car directly in front of us.
The truck skidded, my body left the seat for a few brief seconds and the feeling of weightlessness terrified me. The image of my hair flying past my face still lingers in my mind. Then the impact, a crushing blow to my chest and pure adrenaline.
Talking with the first responders, police and people at the scene is mostly a blur. We immediately went to urgent care, where Paul was treated for knee, neck and back pain, as soon as they took his statement.
I was in the passenger seat and sustained a fractured sternum along with multiple contusions on my right side. I was sent to the Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center trauma unit where I was monitored for internal bleeding, heart arrhythmia and other potential damages throughout the night.
The staff in the observation unit were kind, competent and very supportive. I’m grateful for their care!
We began therapy for our injuries Thursday which has temporarily increased the pain and inflammation. I can only use my right arm for a short period of time before I have to rest. And the medications are upsetting my stomach quite a bit. It will be several weeks, if not months before I am back to ‘normal’.
In the meantime I will do my best to share the delicious recipes we all love! Luckily I already had several new recipe posts done and scheduled for the coming weeks. I appreciate the well wishes and support you folks have shown through social media channels the last few days!
Bear with me during this time of healing as I navigate the Road to Recovery!
